Types of Massage We Offer

  • Therapeutic massage: focused work on specific areas of pain, tension or injury.
  • Swedish massage: long, flowing strokes that relax muscles and calm the nervous system.
  • Trigger point therapy: targeted pressure on tight knots that can refer pain to other areas, such as the head or arms.
  • Sports massage: helps active people prepare for activity, recover and keep muscles flexible.
  • Cupping: gentle suction that lifts and loosens tight soft tissue.

Krista will talk with you about your goals and adjust techniques and pressure to what feels right for you.

What Massage Therapy Can Help With

Massage improves blood flow to tight areas, eases muscle spasm, helps restore range of motion and supports relaxation. Many people also find it improves their mood and sleep.

Massage Therapy and Chiropractic Care

You do not have to choose between massage and chiropractic care. They work well together because:

  • Relaxed muscles make chiropractic adjustments easier and more comfortable.
  • Massage can help the effects of an adjustment last longer.
  • Adjustments address the joints and spine, while massage addresses the muscles and soft tissue around them.
  • Together they treat both the structural and soft-tissue sides of pain or an injury.

What to Expect at Your Massage

At your first visit, Krista will ask about your health history, where you hurt and what you want to get out of your massage. You will have privacy to get comfortable on the table and will be draped throughout the session. Let Krista know at any point if you want more or less pressure. Afterward, drink some water and take it easy if you had deeper work done.

Massage Therapy FAQs

What does a licensed massage therapist do?

A licensed massage therapist uses hands-on techniques to relax muscles, ease tension and pain, and improve movement. At Total Spine in Maple Grove, licensed massage therapist Krista Boyer is trained in therapeutic, Swedish, trigger point and sports massage, cupping and Reiki.

What is the difference between therapeutic massage and Swedish massage?

Swedish massage uses long, flowing strokes mainly for relaxation. Therapeutic massage focuses on specific areas of pain, tension or injury and may use deeper pressure or techniques such as trigger point therapy.

Can massage help after a car accident?

Yes. Massage therapy can ease the muscle tightness, spasm and soft-tissue pain that often follow a car accident, and it pairs well with chiropractic care for whiplash and other auto injuries.

Can I get massage and chiropractic care at the same visit?

Massage and chiropractic care are both offered at Total Spine and work well together. Call our office at (763) 568-7869 to schedule them in a way that fits your care plan.

Does insurance cover massage therapy?

Coverage depends on your plan and the reason for your massage. Call our office to ask about your coverage. We also offer discounts and payment options for services that insurance does not cover.
